About

This beautiful coin with remarkable preservation depicts Constantine the Great, who shaped the history of the world when he changed the Roman Empire from a Pagan to a Christian empire.

He was born on February 27, 272 AD, the son of Constantius II, who later became emperor. After his father's death, he became Emperor and reigned from 306 AD to 337 AD after a series of civil wars against Maxentius and Licinius. His major contribution to Christian history began with the Edict of Milan, which granted religious tolerance to Christians. He also called the Council of Nicaea to resolve some of the Theological questions within the Church resulting in the instituting of the Nicene Creed.

His mother, Saint Helen, was a very devout Christian who used her position as mother of the emperor to travel to Jerusalem to mark the holy places thereby building the Church of the Holy Sepulcher and the Church of the Nativity. He died May 22nd 337 AD and was succeeded by his three sons Constantine II, Constantius II, and Constans I.

The coin has been graded a XF by NGC Ancients division and the slabbed coin is enclosed in a story vault.
