Rare Renoir Etching Proof of Berthe Morisot

This exquisite original etching by impressionist master Auguste Renoir features an intimate, finely detailed portrait of his celebrated contemporary, the painter Berthe Morisot. Designated in the definitive catalogues raisonnés as both Stella 2 and Delteil 4, this rare piece is a scarce initial proof printed well in advance of the 1924 edition of Théodore Duret's Renoir, a monumentally important academic-retrospective on the artist. Strikingly distinct from the common restrikes, this artist-authorized early posthumous proof is pressed on fine laid paper and features completely blank margins with absolutely no text printed below the image.
Renoir’s light, expressive cross-hatching beautifully captures Morisot's striking gaze and poise, making this superb impression an elite and excellent addition for discerning connoisseurs and museum-grade collectors of 19th-century impressionist graphic works.
