About

In 1961, Picasso in collaboration with the French publisher Cercle d’Art produced perhaps his most patriotic, well known, and nostalgic work, Toros y Toreros.

This collection comprises three sketchbooks created between 1957 and 1959.  They depict the painter’s love of Spanish culture, customs, traditional attire, imagery reminiscent of his childhood works, and the national pastime of bullfighting.

The collection opens with a foreword on the theme written by renowned bullfighter and Picasso’s personal friend, Luis Miguel Dominguin, alongside an art analysis by critic Georges Boudaille.
It features 16 untitled, full-color, single sided lithographs expertly created under Picasso’s direction by Mourlot of Paris, complemented by black-and-white reproductions from Moderne du Lion, Paris, after the original washes and sketches contained in the sketchbooks.

All Toros y Toreros works offered are original 1961 French first editions.
