Picasso's "Scène de Ménage" | Original 156 Series Etching | Plate 64 (Edition 1/50)
This striking original etching and drypoint, titled "Scène de Ménage" (Plate 64), is a quintessential masterpiece from Pablo Picasso's revered 156 Series, the monumental graphic suite that crowned the final chapter of his artistic journey. Executed in March 1971 at his studio in Mougins, France, the copper plate bears Picasso's distinctive reversed plate-inscriptions marking its developmental states—serving as an intimate, unfiltered document of his creative turnover. In this domestic interior, Picasso explores theatrical friction and psychological interplay through dense, electrifying cross-hatching and fractured cubist form, staging a bearded classical figure in direct dialogue with an expressive female presence.
Carrying the coveted distinction of being Edition 1/50, this impression was hand-pressed on pristine Vélin de Rives paper by the master printers Aldo & Piero Crommelynck in Mougins and published posthumously in 1978 by the legendary Galerie Louise Leiris in Paris. Number one of the limited edition, this museum-grade print offers serious collectors and connoisseurs an irreplaceable artifact from Picasso's definitive graphic legacy.
