About

Leonor Fini, 1907-1996 was seemingly the most fiercely and courageously independent woman artist of the 20th century. She was an Argentinian and Italian surrealist painter, creator, illustrator, and author, known for her portrayals of powerful and erotic women. Without ever separating her life from her craftsmanship, she crossed time and place with exceptional artistic independence, transposing her avant-garde ideas onto the canvas. Leonor Fini has been portrayed as a sorceress, a magical creature, and a cat lady, but she was overall an empowered artist who broke the codes of femininity. Her works have been included in nearly every major Surrealism show from 1936 to the present.
