This self published etching was hand created by the master himself, Henri Matisse. Depicting a portrait of Marguerite Matisse, the artist's wife, and included in a release of 50 other lithographic portraits of women, Cinquante Dessins, 1920. The artwork is hand signed in pencil to the lower right.
Henri Matisse was one of the most important and influential artists of the 20th century. He was a rival to Picasso and the two artists contributed greatly to the development of the arts in the early 1900's. Matisse's artworks continue to fetch hefty sums in auctions and private sales and his works are still featured in some of the world's most prestigious galleries and museums.
