Soundproof Shows at the Avalon: A Piece of Rock History After the departure of the Family Dog, Soundproof Productions made history as the first to bring rock back to the Avalon Ballroom. Their debut event in January 1969 featured a legendary Grateful Dead dance, immortalized by Rick Griffin’s psychedelic masterwork, "Aoxomoxoa" (AOR 2.24). The art was so impactful that the Dead adopted both the title and imagery for their third studio album later that year. This specific handbill card comes from the 1982 printing, personally authorized by Griffin to celebrate what is widely considered one of the greatest pieces of rock and roll art ever created.
