Where Surrealism Meets the Silver Screen: Dalí & Disney's Destino

Once upon a time..Salvador Dalí and Walt Disney conceived a partnership to bring together two masters of Surrealism to create a short-form film featuring the mind bending visuals of the European master and the unmistakeable whimsical animated styling of Walt Disney. This tryptic etching titled "Twenty-Four, Twenty-Five, Sixty-Eight" serves as the ultimate Disney souvenir from their collaboration. Titled after the proposed storyboards #24, #25, and #68, this piece gives a frame by frame evolution of the Destino narrative as it juxtaposes the grace of the woman's fluid movements against the power of the baseball player's swing, femininity vs. masculinity . Executed as a series of etchings after the original storyboards, this piece is printed on museum quality archival paper that bears the "Destino" blind stamp in place of the signature.

Because the project was only brought to life by Disney Studios in 2003, these etchings represents a bridge between the original vision of the two masters and the doggedness of Roy Disney and the animators of Walt Disney Studios. After completion of the award wining animated short a series of Fine Art prints were executed in editions of 300 featuring choice scenes from epic love story, giving the same permanence to Dalí's contribution as the film did to Disney's.
