About

Constantin Guys (1802–1892) was a Dutch-born French artist celebrated for his watercolor paintings and illustrations. After serving in the cavalry and traveling with Lord Byron, Guys began his artistic career at 40, eventually earning Baudelaire's praise as the "painter of modern life." His detailed depictions of contemporary life, fashion, and society made him a significant figure in 19th-century art.
