A one of a kind find! The year was 1966 and Bruce Fleming was an up and coming London photographer, working as a stringer for Melody Maker, England's popular weekly music news. His specialty was the jazz clubs but he was friendly with one of the biggest pop groups of the day, the Animals. The Animals bass player, Chas Chandler was the one who discovered Jimi Hendrix in New York, bringing him to London to start a band.
Jimi Hendrix, Mitch Mitchel and Noel Reading entered Bruce Fleming's studio on February 23rd, 1967 for the first of two sessions that would be used as the cover art for the UK version of the first Jim Hendrix Experience album, "Are You Experienced." These are Bruce's original proof sheets from the rolls he shot on that historic morning.
