Everyone has heard of Championship rings but how many collectors have an NFL Championship watch? Add yourself to that exclusive group of fans with this authentic, player-issued, 1954 Cleveland Browns NFL Championship watch. Before championship rings became the norm, players were given the option of a watch or ring in recognition of their achievement. Browns Defensive Tackle John Kissel chose to receive this impressive piece from prestigious Swiss watchmaker, LeCoultre.
The watch is housed in a 14k yellow gold case and features the Cleveland mascot, Brownie the Elf on the dial. The watch also features an advanced for its time, vibrating alarm, set via the inner dial. The watch has a newly replaced Louisiana Alligator band and it's hand wound mechanics are in good working order.
John Kissel played in both the CFL & NFL and was named an All-Pro defensive tackle by the International News Service in 1949. Kissel was known as an intimidating and hard-hitting presence on the field who is said to have once broken a practice sled with a hit. Kissel was credited with a fumble recovery in the 1954 Championship game, propelling the Browns to a 56-10 victory over the Detroit Lions and the Browns second World Championship.
