About

Intricately detailed brass emblem that would have been affixed to the "sabretache" (a cavalry officer's flat pouch) of a musician from the French "Chasseurs a Cheval de la Garde Imperial" ("Horse Chasseurs of the Imperial Guard"). This piece dates back to the Second Empire period under Napoleon III (1852-1870). The emblem features a shield with Imperial eagle, a knight's helm and mitre, backed by crossed scepters on a patterned drape featuring bees. The imperial cipher "N" appears wreathed beneath the shield, with a Legion of Honor medal at bottom. A stately prize for any collector.

Dimensions: Approx. 7 1/2" x 5" x 1"
