Salvador Dalí Original Lithograph: Réverie de Don Quichotte dans la nuit (1957)

Réverie de Don Quichotte dans la nuit depicts Don Quixote lost in thought after reading, moonlight beaming through a stained glass window as imaginary figures swirl above his head. This original stone lithograph is from Pages Choisies de Don Quichotte de la Mancha, Salvador Dalí’s first-ever lithographic portfolio illustrating Miguel de Cervantes’ classic novel.

To depict the story's central themes of turmoil, anxiety, and perception, Dalí developed revolutionary techniques—shooting printer’s ink from a 15th-century musket, using ink-filled rhinoceros horns as pens, and applying watercolor and collage. Created between 1956 and 1957 across six print houses, the portfolio was published by Joseph Foret of Paris in 1957. This original work belongs to a rare special edition of 25 printed on watermarked Arches paper, with Dalí’s signature inscribed directly in the stone.
