Salvador Dalí's First Original Lithograph | L'Age d'Or

L’Age d’Or (“The Golden Age”) represents Don Quichotte’s (“Don Quixote“) central motivation, the mythical ideal of harmony, peace, and chivalry.  The character believed the world was once ruled by chivalry, where knights protected the pure and innocent, and this ideal has been lost.  He attempts to revive this golden age by acting as an errant knight, engaging in adventures and fighting against perceived injustice, even if it means misinterpreting reality.

This original stone lithograph is from "Pages Choisies de Don Quichotte de la Mancha," Salvador Dali’s first ever lithographic portfolio. The portfolio illustrates the first modern European novel ever written, Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes.
