In the 1966 Eight Deadly Sins portfolio, Salvador Dalí offers a visceral and psychologically charged interpretation of one of humanity's most primal impulses, Gluttony. Rather than depict the obvious, Dalí opts to employ the sugar-lift aquatint technique to create, in meticulous detail, a figure that appears to be in a state of constant surreal transformation. The fluid imagery invites to viewer into the the internal, obsessive nature of consumption and instability.
Printed on Rives paper as one of eight in a limited edition of 125 suites, Eight Deadly Sins, or Les Huit Péchés Capitaux, serves as a profound meditation on the human condition and the pervasive influence of the Catholic Church on one of the greatest artists of the 20th century.
