This artwork, titled "Conclusion, morality and after", is from Salvador Dali's suite of illustrations depicting Pedro A. de Alacron’s Novel, Le Tricorne (The Three Cornered Hat). The suite is composed of 20 wood engravings after Salvador Dali’s original watercolors with collage and was published by Editions Du Rocher, Monaco in 1959.
The images show Dali’s imaginative interpretation of the story about an honest miller who is happily married to a good wife. The local government official, donning a tri-cornered hat, pursues the miller’s wife, abusing his power, and falsely imprisoned the miller. Dali’s illustrations vary between beautiful and morbid.
260 copies were printed on Richard de Bas Auvergne paper, with a private Tricorne watermark. This hand made paper was specially produced for Dali’s “Le Tricorne” suite. The collection is referenced in the Salvador Dali Catalogue Raisonne of Print: Micheler Lopsinger #1018 - 1037 and Field 59-1, pp. 20-21.
Salvador Dalí is best known for his unique Surrealistic visions of the world, creating magnificent artworks that captivate viewers to this day. The Catalan virtuoso is considered among the great graphic masters of his century.
