About

Picasso’s “Grâce et Mouvement” portfolio demonstrates his exceptional command of line and shape, capturing the dynamic flow and vitality of the human figure. Influenced by Post-Impressionism and expressionism, these works depict intimate scenes of ballet dancers rehearsing and interacting within the studio environment.

This etching is one of 14 that composes the 1943 suite, “Grâce et Mouvement, 14 Original Compositions.”  The suite, after the 1940 edition of the same name, was expertly engraved by  Haefeli & Cie, Arts Graphiques, à La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland and printed by Christian Bichsel, Zurich.  The edition on Véllin à la Main paper was limited to just 250 copies and published by Louis Grosclaude of Zurich.  Individual prints from the portfolio are signed in the plate.
