This is a classically shaped Japanese katana handguard, known as a tsuba. The most striking feature is the presence of the two monkeys incorporated into the openwork on the Tsuba. The faces are highlighted with inlay, adding a touch of elegance and luxury. Monkeys depicted in Japanese art and culture, often symbolizing intelligence, agility, and resourcefulness. Based on the style, this Tsuba likely dates back to the Edo period (1603-1868).
