Warhol's 1964 Flowers Series | 11.73 | Sunday B. Morning Edition
Andy Warhol's Flower series, originally debuted in 1964, represents a rare departure from the homogenized world of consumer goods and celebrity portraits that became Warhol's trademark images. As he turned his pop-art lens towards a photograph of hibiscus blossoms found in Modern Photography magazine, Warhol transformed the flowers with a fluorescent intensity through graphic layering, flattened details, and high-contrast synthetic colors. Our Sunday B. Morning editions of the iconic series capture that same intensity that was seen in the original series sold at the Leo Castelli Gallery.
Using the original 36"x36" screens and precise color-match formulas, printed on museum board, these silkscreen prints replicate every vibrant flower petal detail as they "pop" against the textured grass background. As with all Sunday B. Morning editions, the Flowers Series feature the classic blue ink stamp on the reverse and as an open edition they offer an excellent opportunity for a Warhol collector to own a beautiful decorative and historical creation. Each color variation is recognized as an official "after" in the Warhol Catalogue Raisonné.
