About

Beautiful artwork from the famed French visualist, Henri Matisse. This collection was produced to coincide with an exhibition of Matisse's artwork at one of the oldest art galleries in Paris, the Bernheim-Jeune in 1920. This collection entitled "Cinquante Dessins" featured 50 full-page plates of Matisse’s illustrations of women with the frontispiece being an etching of Matisse’s daughter.

Henri Matisse was one of the most important and influential artists of the 20th century. He was a rival to Picasso and the two artists contributed greatly to the development of the arts in the early 1900's. Matisse's artworks continue to fetch hefty sums in auctions and private sales and his works are still featured in some of the world's most prestigious galleries and museums.
