Coached by the legendary Lou Holtz, they finished the season undefeated, winning 10 out of 12 games by double digits. Most famously, they upset the No. 1 ranked Miami Hurricanes, breaking their 36 game regular season winning streak. The Irish won the title over the West Virginia Mountaineers in the Fiesta Bowl by a score of 34-21.

This player ring was cast in 10k gold, a practice discontinued on NCAA rings after 2006. The player it belonged to played multiple years with Notre Dame, appearing in the Sugar, Orange and Cotton Bowl in addition to the Championship Fiesta Bowl.
