About

Joan Miró, in collaboration with renowned French printmaker, Fernand Mourlot of Paris, set out to illustrate the poetry of Yvan Goll.  Both artists were well known in their respective fields for their surrealist interpretations of the ordinary, creating extraordinary unique works.
This original lithograph is one of 18 from that partnership in 1967, titled “Bouquet de Rêves pour Nelia.”

Miró interprets Goll’s poetry about dreams and the subconscious while using automatism, a drawing technique in surrealism that uses spontaneous movements to create a visual from the artist's mind.
The collaboration with Goll came at a time in Miró’s career when he devoted his work to original printmaking because it allowed him more freedom for collaborations with artisans from other genres and increased the reach of his message.
