Rick Griffin's iconic Hawaiian Aoxomoxoa poster, originally designed for a 1968 Grateful Dead concert series in Honolulu that never materialized, has become one of the most sought-after pieces of concert poster art. When the show was cancelled and the promoter failed to pay the printer, most copies were destroyed—only approximately 30 first printings are believed to survive today. Following the design's legendary status, an authorized second printing was produced in 1982 by Griffin and Jose Kent, with just 1,000 copies manufactured. This authenticated second printing features distinctive characteristics: pure white at the skull's crown and within the yellow sun's center, plus two subtle irregularities along the left edge. A remarkable artifact of psychedelic art history and Deadhead culture.
