1983 Baltimore Orioles World Series Championship Ring
This is an executive-issued Baltimore Orioles' 1983 World Series ring, the third championship in franchise history. Crafted by Balfour in 10k yellow gold the ring features the Orioles logo over a bed of diamonds. The 1984 World Series saw the Orioles take down the Philadelphia Phillies four games to one in what became known as "The I-95 Series," a Baltimore–Philadelphia showdown named for the interstate connecting the two fan bases. It remains, to this day, the last World Series title the Orioles franchise has won.
The 1983 club is remembered as one of the most talent-stacked Orioles rosters ever assembled, anchored by future Hall of Famers Cal Ripken Jr. and Eddie Murray, with veteran ace Jim Palmer rounding out the pitching staff. First-year manager Joe Altobelli guided the team to a 98-64 regular season record and a six-game division title, then through the postseason to a franchise-defining championship in his very first year at the helm. This ring belonged to Joe Hamper the Vice President for Finance and CFO, Mr. Hamper was an integral part of the Orioles front office for over 35 years.
The "I-95 Series"
The 1983 World Series pitted Baltimore against Philadelphia, two fanbases separated by little more than a hundred miles of interstate highway. An unlikely hero emerged in Orioles catcher Rick Dempsey, who was named Series MVP after batting 5-for-13 with four doubles and a home run — every one of his hits going for extra bases. This ring commemorates a Series still remembered as one of the more colorful championship runs in Orioles history.
Baltimore has not returned to a World Series championship since 1983, which only deepens the significance of this tangible piece of Baseball history.
