Product Description

Roman Toga Pin Ca. 800 BC

This authentic bronze Roman toga pin dates back to 800BC! The pin measures 4" x 6.5" and will include a small base for display.

The toga pin, also known as a fibula, was used to show off wealth in ancient Rome. Fibulas were designed in a variety of sizes, thought to indicate a Roman’s rank. The larger
the pin, the higher the rank. They were made from bronze or iron and in certain cases would be encrusted with jewels and decorated with enamel.

This pin features 2 small swastikas. In Greco-Roman art and architecture, swastikas were used as a motif to border a building
or piece of clothing. A border of linked swastikas was very common and is sometimes called Greek Keys. Experts believe that the adoption of the swastika by the Nazis was due to the effective
association between Aryan peoples with their historical forefathers, the Romans, instilling racial pride. Additionally, many Roman symbols were adopted by the Nazis to compare the
conquests of the Third Reich with the conquering Roman Empire.
