Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn was born in The Netherlands in 1606, and at an early age wanted to focus on art and he was sent to train as a painter. In 1620, for a duration of about five years, Rembrandt studied under two masters that would influence his work to become what it did. In many instances, as learned from one instructor, he would deconstruct a previous work and reassemble as his own to which he also taught to his students later on. During that time, his work had prominent religious and spiritual themes throughout, transferring to his etchings as he began to experiment with the new medium. His work soon took on noticeable changes involving light, highlighting certain spots while leaving dark pockets of color in others. Becoming a master himself, many artists traveled to study under him, making him one of the most revered artists of all time. Rembrandt’s work came to dominate what is now known as the Dutch Golden Age.
