Inspection Of The Elephant Brigade
The elephants here are all members of Colonel Hathi’s Marching Patrol, a group left over from the days of British colonial rule. The colonel has just pointed out that “Discipline is the ting”, as he calls his troops to attention. Even though they are a well-trained squadron, each elephant has a separate and distinct personality. Mowgli has tried to join the group by imitating the movements of the baby elephant at the end of the line, at the moment where all trunks, or noses, are raised for inspection.
