Dessins Intimes, 1955 | Original Lithographs from Braque's Notebooks

Vase de Fleurs is a rare original color lithograph by Georges Braque, published in the special series double issue of La Revue Verve (Nos. 31-32). Titled "Dessins Intimes" (Intimate Notebooks). This series displays a lesser seen view of Braque's creative process when working through his new inspirations. Through a variety of subjects: birds, flowers, bull-fighting scenes, and chariots the artist departs from his typical portraits in the cubist style and explores softer sketches and meditations that were hidden in his studio for decades.

The legendary publisher and founder of Verve, Tériade, brought Braque's private works to the public in this highly publicized special release. Each lithograph is masterfully printed by Mourlot Frères, Paris under the direction of Tériade and the collaborative supervision of Braque. Each print captures the tactile, early palette and fluid geometry synonymous with Braque's late period masterpieces. These works are the pinnacle of mid-century graphic art as documented in the respected Dora Vallier catalogue raisonné. Highly sought after, these lithographs bridge the gap between the artist's private sketches and his public legacy.
