Product Description

Photos & Schematic Diagrams of the Apollo 11 Lunar Module

This item contains photos and schematic diagrams of the Apollo 11 lunar module. The items belonged to the sellers father who worked on the space program.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) was created on October 1, 1958.

During the Cold War, the “space race” became a major contest between the US and the Soviet Union, to see who could get there first and have authority over space itself.

It was also a test of who was more technologically advanced as a country.

In the late 1950s and 1960s, NASA began several missions to the Moon and other planets.

The Apollo 11 Mission’s primary objective was to successfully execute human exploration of the moon.

Apollo 11 launched on July 16, 1969.  Aboard were astronauts Commander Neil Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins, and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin.

It landed on the Moon on July 20, 2969 at 4:17 p.m. EDT, with Armstrong reporting “Houston, Tranquility Base here–the Eagle has landed.”

The LM lifted off the Moon on July 21st at 12:54 p.m. EDT. It was jettisoned into orbit on July 22nd, and presumably crashed into the Moon’s surface within the next 1-4 months.
