Product Description

Persian Armillary Sphere

An armillary sphere is a tool used for identifying stars and constellations. It consists of a rotating spherical object with designs that allow astronomers to calculate the answers to various astronomical questions. This Persian version of the armillary sphere is known as a celestial globe. It made marked improvements over previous models and allowed for more calculations than before.

Believed to have been made sometime between 1780 and 1820. This specific sphere was used by Zoroastrian priests to map the stars. The globe, axis, and meridian band are original, but the base has been replaced.

This armillary sphere was purchased on Season 13 Episode 6 "Pops Pawn" of the History TV Channel's "Pawn Stars".
