The painter and graphic artist Leonor Fini moved to Milan in 1925, where she lived until 1937 and already received her first commissions for portraits. The first exhibition of her paintings took place here in 1929, together with works by Arthuro Nathan and Carlo Sbisa. In 1937 Leonor Fini stayed in Paris for the first time, where she came into contact with the surrealist painters. She became friends with Max Ernst, Man Ray and Salvador Dali. She took part in some of the major Surrealist exhibitions but declined membership.
