J.J. Grandville (1803-1847), or generally known as Jean-Jacques, was a French caricaturist. He received his first instruction in drawing from his father who was a painter of miniatures. After 1835, he concentrated mostly on illustration. Grandville supplied illustrations for Don QuixoteGulliver's Travels, and Robinson Crusoe. Many of his designs are thought of as unnatural and absurd, however they possess a keen observation of character and display humor. The bands Queen and Alice In Chains have used Grandville's artwork for their album covers.
