"After Constantine the Great, his sons, Constantine II, Constantius II, and Constans, became emperors. Constantius II massacred his relatives, taking the Eastern part of the empire, while Constantine II and Constans warred over the West. Constantine II, the eldest son, felt he deserved a larger portion, and attacked Constans in 340. His army was ambushed, and Constantine II was killed, giving Constans the West. Constans and Constantius II remained in a terse peace until Constans was overthrown by Megnentius in 350. Constantius II immediately began a civil war. Magnentius was decisively defeated, making Constantius II the sole Emperor."
