Persia held control over Anatolia during the early 4th century B.C. and much of our knowledge about their administration of the region during this period is gained from the numismatic evidence available. Governance of the territory of Lycia in southeastern Anatolia was divided between dynasts that reported to the Persian king and occasionally completed amongst each other. Although Persia would demand tribute from Lycia, the dynasts seem to have had a considerable degree of independence, as is borne out by their right to strike coinage, Persoa lost and regained possession of Lycia in the 360s B.C., and subsequently maintained control the region until it was conquered by Alexander the Great in 334-333 B.C.
