Pinkney became a well-known street muralist in Compton, California during the Civil Rights Movement. Born in Brunswick, Georgia, he relocated to California for art studies at Woodbury University where he became a notable figure in the African American Freedom art movement. Through his public murals, Pinkney devoted himself to raising awareness of social and political issues and promoting Black and Brown unity. He passed away on December 22nd, 2019, but his contributions to the Los Angeles community mural movement will continue to be remembered.
