Intricate bronze sculpture with gold painted accents by French Sculptor Adrien Ãtienne Gaudez entitled the "Maid of Orleans." This sculpture depicts Joan of Arc, folk heroine of France and a Roman Catholic saint. Born to a peasant family in northeast France, she led the French army to several important victories during the Hundred Years War, paving the way for the coronation of Charles VII of France. Sadly, she was captured and put on trial by the pro-English Bishop of Beauvais Pierre Cauchon for charges of "insubordination and heterodoxy", and was burned at the stake for heresy at the age of 19.
