Genuine "bulla" seal dating back the 11th century. This is a lead bulla that was used as a tamper evident seal for documents, in this case those originating from Nikolaos, a spatharokandidatos (court dignitary) and basilikos of the silk from the Byzantine Emprie. The seal depicts St. Nicholas a Christian Bishop of Greek descent who is the inspiration for Santa Claus.
