The Japanese samurai sword is widely regarded as one of the greatest weapons ever made by human hands. This blade was forged in the Mino Province of Japan around the mid 16th century, during the Koji (1555-1573) and Genki (1570-1573) eras.
The Katana features a Shinto blade with an iron Tsuba (handguard) and a lacquered black saya (scabbard) with gold dusting. The mounting is estimated to be from the 1800's. This sword also includes an additional wooden blade, handle and scabbard which are traditionally used for storing the weapon, as well as a silk sword bag.
The sword has been professionally polished and sharpened. This item has been authenticated by both Mike Yamasaki, "Pawn Stars" Japanese sword expert and NBTHK (Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai
), the Society for the Preservation of the Japan Art Sword. A NBTHK authentication process is not to be taken lightly and can take anywhere from 3 months to a year. This katana includes NBTHK Hozon paperwork, meaning the society has deemed it authentic and worthy of preservation.
