Product Description

1890's Antique Magician Automaton

Purchased on "Pawn Stars" Season 15, Episode 8 "The Pawn Commandments"

A magical item this automaton moves on it's own and performs a magic trick while playing music. This one has multiple movements which increase the value, the magicians head moves as he turns and looks at the audience, then his hands move, lift and drop the cones as the items beneath them magically appear and disappear.

An automaton was a machine constructed to run on its own power. The earliest ones are traced back to 350 B.C. and were first powered by air or steam. Most automatons resemble people or creatures and are built to perform a repetitive action, like a magic trick such as this one. This particular automaton was made around 1900 and the dressing is made of real silk. The silk has broken down over time and there are some wear spots. These type of automatons were luxury items and not toys, as can be seen by the silk wardrobe of the magician. The music box was made by Reuge, who was a French pioneer of music boxes. It is all original and is working condition.

Measures 20"H x 8 1/2"W x 8 1/2"D.

Some minor repairs have been made to the base, otherwise appears to be in original condition.
