Product Description

1765 Psychiatry Book by Robert Whytt 1st Ed.

1st Edition copy of Observations on the Nature, Causes, and Cure, of those Disorders which have been commonly called Nervous, Hypochondriac, or Hysteric, to which are prefixed some Remarks on the Sympathy of the Nerves by Robert Whytt published in 1765. One of the very first early forays into modern psychiatry this book proved to be very influential in developing a systematic approach to mental health.

This book was owned by notable American nuerophysiologist John Farquhar Fulton, as evidenced by his signature on the bookplate. Fulton was the youngest ever Sterling professor of physiology at Yale, founder of the first primate research laboratory in the US and creator of the Yale Aero-Medical Research Unit credited with great progress in the fields of aviation medicine and high altitude flying.

Dr. Robert Whytt was a Scottish physician. His work, on unconscious reflexes, tubercular meningitis, urinary bladder stones, and hysteria, is remembered now most for his book on diseases of the nervous system. He served as President of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. This 1765 Robert Whytt Book is rare and sought after by many.
